Pizza Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup warm water (100-110°F) (estimate)
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar (estimate)
  • 1 package active dry yeast (estimate: 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 2 cups (240 grams) all-purpose flour or double zero flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt (estimate)
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary or oregano, or onion powder/garlic powder (to taste)
  • Few tablespoons of olive oil (for bowl and dough surface) (estimate: 3 tablespoons)
  • Pizza sauce (to taste) (estimate)
  • Cheese for topping (low moisture, fresh mozzarella recommended) (to taste) (estimate)

Steps:

1
Start by waking up the yeast in warm water that's about 100-110°F, making sure it's not too cold to wake them up or too hot to kill them. Add half a tablespoon of sugar for food, and then the yeast package. Stir until combined.
2
Cover the yeast mixture and let it sit for about 5-7 minutes until you see little bubbles forming, indicating that the yeast has woken up.
3
Prepare the flour mixture by combining 2 cups of all-purpose or double zero flour with 3/4 teaspoon of salt. Optionally add any herbs or spices like dried rosemary, oregano, onion powder, or garlic powder.
4
Finish the flour mixture by adding the remaining sugar and whisking together. Then mix the flour and yeast mixtures, either using a stand mixer with a dough hook on low speed or by hand with a wooden spoon. Add additional flour if needed.
5
Check the dough consistency and adjust by adding a small amount of water if it seems dry, or a bit more flour if it's wet. Aim for a cohesive ball of dough. Dust the mixer bowl with flour and knead the dough briefly.
6
After kneading, let the dough sit in a warm, draft-free place to rise until it doubles in size. Prepare an oiled bowl for the rising dough.
7
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove any air bubbles, and then roll it out on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness, creating a thicker crust if preferred.
8
Transfer the rolled out dough to your baking surface and brush it lightly with oil. Dock (poke) the dough to prevent big bubbles. Add pizza sauce and spread it evenly, followed by a generous amount of cheese and any additional toppings.
9
Bake the pizza in a preheated oven at 425°F for about 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden. Slice and enjoy!
